The current work examined the significance of the working space in High-tech companies and its core values: collaboration, innovation and companionship (creating a sense of community) were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the transition to remote working. The aim of this work is to help companies in this new situation and find ways to return to the working space. This could be achieved through adjustment of open working spaces, keeping social distancing and maintaining workers' safety and well-being.
This work offers a methodology for beneficial working space planning. The methodology underlies the boundaries of the desired change through analysis of the existing office typology, organizational culture and its current standing in the ’integration axis‘ between full-in-office working week to full remote, combining different options of working in and out of the office.
Edlis suggests including the managers and employees in the planning process, enabling them to conclude where the organization stands on the ’integration axis‘ and develop a working strategy with a new office typology that is fitted to the desired constellation.
In addition, Edlis presents insights on the ‘Collaboration Office’ which enables an optimal balance, by combining remote work along with collaboration meetings inside the working space. This new approach of the ‘Collaboration Office’ allows the reduction of real-estate space while maintaining collaboration, innovation and companionship within organizations.
